What is the difference between a hotel and a motel?
Motel is a portmanteau word that combines the mot of motor with the tel of hotel for a ';motor hotel';. Motels are usually single story units that open directly onto a parking lot. This allows you to park directly in front of your room. Hotels are multifloors, the rooms accessed by enclosed halls and the parking in a separate area away from the rooms.

that's basically it :)
A hotel usually has food and other services, a motel is designed for motorist and usually one to two floors building.
The m and the h. Hotels are usually tall and intown, motels are in suburbs or rural areas with one or a few storeys and more spread out.
Price, location and amenities. One has room service, the other doesn't.
