cheaper is not always a better choice but I will tell you that there are Motel 6s, Super 6s, Motel 8s all around San Antonio. If you go on line and search for one of these that is fine but make sure to look at the map or directions. Stay on or out side of I-410. I don't know what your idea of inexpensive is, but I've been looking and looking for a nice hotel and found Drury Inn and Suites. The hotel we're going to be staying in starts at 103.00 a night. It comes with really nice amenities though. Good Luck!
