It use to be that a motel was a motor lodge where you could park right at your room.What is the difference between Hotel and Motel?
hotel is an establishment that provides paid lodging, usually on a short-term basis. A Motel is an example of ';PORTMANTEAU'; in the english language. A portmanteau is a word formed by mixing two different words. Motel = Motor + Hotel, Brunch = Breakfast + Lunch. In a motel you can drive upto your room. In some motels you are offered kitchens too to prepare your food. Motels are usually situated on highways and act as a place of temporary stay for long distance travellers. Hotels are situated in prime locations are they are aiming to attract customers of high status like buissness travellers, tourists etc. =]
Hotel can be upwards of 15 stories high, or more, or a little less. A Motel just has ground floor units in a row and you drive your car right up to the front door of the room you've rented. Motels usually have cheaper rates than Hotels. Not too many Motels have ';chains';, whereas Hotels do.
