What is the difference between a Hotel and Motel if any? Or is just a dialect thing?

Nope, I work at a hotel, and we also own a motel. Let me clear it up for you. A Hotel is usually many stories, has a large common lobby, and services such as food, room service, and such. Motels are a term meaning Motor-hotels. Or hotels for motorists. Motels are single level usually, and you can drive up, or close to, the entrance to your room. Hence the motor-hotel conjunction. But as we say here in the business when some one asks ';What is the difference between a hotel and a motel?'; we say ';About $150 per night';.What is the difference between a Hotel and Motel if any? Or is just a dialect thing?
AAAAAAAAh thank you very muchhh.

鈻篐otel has 5 stars and are the best ones to stay

鈻篗otels are second in category and they are also rates with stars

鈻篐ostal is a family house where you rent a room they are also rated by stars
Hotels are vertical. You walk into them

Motels are horizontal. You pull your car up to the door of your room.
Hotel, doors on the inside, Motel, doors on the outside.
Hotel as in Hostel, the ';S'; disappeared when the word went from latin to french, like ';ecole'; ';Escola';. That is why so many ';E';'s in french have accents. It is also related to Hospital and Hospitality.

Motel is a modern word meaning ';motor hotel';. These are more often on the sides of highways and interstates and are not especially designed for tourism.
motel indicates that it's a motor lodge, designed more for a one or two night stay to weary travelers who are driving long distances. hotels indicate a more home-like and elaborate room for total comfort, home and hospitality being the root of that meaning. ho = home, mo = motor (car). hope this helped you!
The word ';Motel'; is derived from hotel and motor. They sprang up through the country as a result of the interstates and automobile age.

They tend to be close to freeways, clean and reasonable in price. Think Motel 6, Quality Inn, etc. Doors can be either in or outside, but they usually have expansive single level parking lots for easy access for cars.

True ';hotels'; are classier establishments usually located in urban areas and such.

The words are used interchangeably sometimes.
Motels usually have open walkways. Hotels usually have closed hallways.
In my experience the difference is vast. My expectations of a Hotel center around comfort and tranquility. For example, the Sheraton is a hotel. They have comfortable beds, soft sheets, bottled water, and usually excellent room service. A motel, on the other hand, is somewhere you would stay when short of cash, and/or desperate. Motels, like motel 6, are not high on comfort, and in my personal experience have a certain smell to them. I do not want to begin to try to identify what some motel rooms smell like.
