Where is the best area in Las Vegas to find a hotel/ motel and be close to the tourist area?

I mean, we want to stay close to the casinos, then we don't need to take a tour or something like that... is it downtown, north, south or what in Vegas?

is it possible to see things by ourselves? I mean, public transportation? or do we need a car or tour?Where is the best area in Las Vegas to find a hotel/ motel and be close to the tourist area?
Stay on the STRIP. It is the center of action. Choose a hotel in the middle of the strip and walk everywhere you want to go. Do not try to drive in Las Vegas if you value your life. Way too dangerous. Check out this site .. it is full of great information especially for first timers.Where is the best area in Las Vegas to find a hotel/ motel and be close to the tourist area?
The best place is on the strip, or at least close to the strip.

Right now, hotels are offering rates lower then they have in many years. There is no need to slum it and stay in a fleabag motel, or stay in a location you dont like just to save a few bucks.

Check into Ballys and Flamingo. Great location and very low rates.
Not Downtown

I would suggest you look just a short distance from the famous Strip at Gold Coast, Orleans or South Point or even M. You do NOT want to go to a motel, because you won't save money and most in sections of town you shoudl avoid.. These are locals favorites.

Public transportation is not great. Better to rent a car and have fun.
I was just there and stayed at Treasure Island but it is very expensive to eat there. las vegas has gotten very expensive, not a good deal like it used to be, they seem to cater to folks with money and asians but it is still fine once you get over the cost of things
I always stay at Treasure Island. It's right in the middle of the strip so you can walk just about anywhere. Or take a cab if you get tired but it won't cost much because you're not going far. TI is moderately priced and a very nice place to stay.
If you want to be on the strip then Circus Circus is good. My friend stayed their. If you want to be off the strip which I like. Arizona Charlies is good and I once stayed in Henderson Holiday Inn. I drive around when I visited in the past. It is all about what you want to do.
I would definetely stay on the Blvd. where the action is. You cannot go wrong with most hotels, personally I really enjoyed my stays at Mirage, MGM and Luxor. Check http://www.vegas-hotels-online.com for the latest offer codes.
motel 6 and extended stays all over the cross streets

industrial and dean martin and also harmon.

check terribles casino and you may be happy
I'll be staying in Vegas next week, and have been doing heaps of research.

I have a whole spread sheet comparing prices, amenities, location etc.

I considered the Bellagio to be the 'centre' of the strip.

If you have a hire car, the good thing is that most hotels offer free valet parking, to look at the hotel attraction.

It's about a 1 1/2 hr walk just from one end of the strip to the other (without stopping)

My best tool was google maps (link below)

I could look a walking distance from place to place, and search nearby for krispy creme (or whatever)

My predicament, was that I couldn't find any good deals!

Another invaluable tool is Trip advisor. Before booking ANYTHING, check out what people are saying about it!

I would say the very southern end of the Strip ends around Tropicana Ave, and the very northern end of the strip ends around Sahara Ave

After much research, I found The MGM Mirage, had the best price, reviews AND location. I couldn't beat it.

I found REALLY good discount codes (link below)

A couple of the discounts give you 30% off

You'll find there's a tram and also a monorail and also a bus (deuce)

MONORAIL INFO (link below)

Monorail info:

7 a.m. to 2 a.m. Monday - Thursday

7 a.m. to 3 a.m. Friday - Sunday

365 days a year

Travel the entire route, from the MGM Grand Hotel %26amp; Casino to the Sahara Hotel, in just 15 minutes. Trains arrive every 4-12 minutes, and usually every 5-6 minutes during peak travel periods.

One day unlimited pass: USD$12 per person

DEUCE BUS

Deuce bus

The Deuce is a bargain at only $3 one way, $7 for 24 hours, or $15 for 3 days. It is the double decker bus that stops in front of all the major hotels on the strip

TRAM INFO (link below...info copied from the link)

There is a free tram that runs between Excalibur and Mandalay Bay, but with a twist. The same company owns these two resorts plus the Luxor that's in-between them. In order to get visitors down to Mandalay Bay, which is at the end of the Strip as far as most tourists are concerned, the tram does not stop at Luxor when going from Excalibur to Mandalay Bay (the south-bound run). It only stops at Luxor on the north-bound run, and as mentioned in the Buffets section of the To Do page, you may want to walk ';Mandalay Place'; back to the Luxor rather than taking the tram. This tram operates 24/7

Hope this helps
